EU green claims rules in force for

What your site says could cost you
4% of turnover or more.

Claim Check finds the claims on your site that the rules no longer allow.
The EU's Empowering Consumers directive has applied since 27 September 2026.

What changes

Four claims your site probably makes.

The Empowering Consumers Directive amends the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, so these stop being marketing choices and become trading standards. The UK's DMCC regime is already in force.

"Eco-friendly", "green", "conscious"

Generic environmental claims, unless you can substantiate them.

"Climate neutral by 2030"

Future claims now need a credible, verified implementation plan.

Your own sustainability label

Seals have to be independent, transparent and traceable.

"Carbon neutral, offset"

Offsets outside your value chain can no longer carry the claim.

What comes back

Every claim sorted into one of three.

One tier per claim, and a single exposure score for the site - so you can track it rather than re-argue it every scan.

Exposure

Named in the directive, or a green claim with nothing behind it. Change these.

Review

Could stand, but the evidence is thin or out of date. A person decides.

Defendable

Tied to evidence that holds. Nothing to do, and now you can show why.

Each finding quotes the claim word for word, links the page it sits on, names the line of the directive it meets and suggests safer wording. An analyst confirms every one before it reaches you.

Why one scan is not enough

Claims rot.

A certificate lapses. A copywriter edits a description. The rules tighten. A site that was clean in March is not clean in September, and nobody notices the day it changes.

Findings

Every claim, by tier, with the page it came from.

Monitoring

What changed: new claims, lapsed certificates, copy edits.

Catalogue

The same read across product descriptions, not just campaigns.

Evidence pack

Findings and sources as one dated, exportable document.

Claim Check reports what your site says and which rule it meets. It is not legal advice.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does Claim Check actually read?

Your public site, the way a customer sees it - category pages, product descriptions, campaign pages and the sustainability pages themselves. It captures each claim where it sits, with the page it came from.

Do we have to give you access to anything?

No. Claim Check reads what is already public, so a first scan needs nothing from your team beyond the domain.

What is the actual penalty?

Member states have to provide for a maximum of at least 4% of annual turnover in the states concerned, for widespread infringements, or at least EUR 2 million where turnover figures are not available. It is set and applied nationally and case by case, so what you are actually exposed to depends on where you trade.

Is this legal advice?

No. Claim Check reports what your site says and which line of the directive that claim meets. What you do about it is a decision for you and your counsel.

Who checks the findings?

An analyst confirms every finding before it reaches you. Nothing is published on model output alone, which is the same bar the rest of the platform holds.

Does it cover product descriptions as well as marketing pages?

Yes. The catalogue scan reads product copy, which is where most claims live and where they are hardest to keep track of.

What happens after the first scan?

Monitoring re-reads the site and shows what changed: claims that are new, certificates that have lapsed, and copy that has been edited since you last looked.

We only trade in the UK. Does this apply to us?

The UK's DMCC regime is already in force and covers much of the same ground, so the exposure is live now rather than in September.

What do we get at the end?

Every claim sorted into exposure, review or defendable, one exposure score for the site, and an evidence pack you can hand on - the findings and their sources as one dated document.
